Elena’s back-stabbing ways may come back to haunt her on The Vampire Diaries.

In the CW series’ midseason finale, Elena (Nina Dobrev) proved that she, too, was capable of killing when she stabbed and killed Rebekah (Claire Holt) as she prepared for the homecoming dance. But since when has being dead stopped a vampire?

“We haven’t seen the last of Rebekah,” executive producer Julie Plec tells TVGuide.com. “The fact that Elena killed Rebekah is going to come back to bite her in the butt.”

When the series picks up in January, not only does the Original sister return in a flashback, but she also makes her presence felt in the present day.

“I’m not going to say when she makes her reappearance, but certainly her being undaggered is not in Elena’s best interest,” Plec teases.

The Vampire Diaries ended the first half of its third season with yet another Original daggered. Elena couldn’t risk taking a chance on Rebekah not returning to her brother’s side and daggered her before the dance. Will Claire Holt return this season?

Vampire Diaries season 3 spoilers about an Original

According to E! Online, “Rebekah (Claire Holt) will be popping up sooner rather than later.” However, it hasn’t yet been revealed if that will happen in a flashback or in the present time. Rebekah has had it a bit rough lately—and even if she was going to be on Elena’s side, that would most likely change if (and presumably when) she’s un-daggered. The Vampire Diaries midseason finale ended with Klaus ready for revenge after Stefan took the coffins holding his family and hid them. He’s going to go after everyone in Mystic Falls, as seen in the preview for season 3 episode 10 “The New Deal,” and no one’s safe. Could Klaus find Rebekah and un-dagger her to get her to join him in going after Elena and the others? Could she just show up in another flashback with Klaus (and hopefully Elijah)? Whatever happens, it sounds like it’s good news for Vampire Diaries fans because she did bring more to the series while she was around.
